The article reports on how 2000 was a good year for the Top 100 furniture stores in the U.S., which earned almost $21.7 billion in furniture, bedding, and accessory sales and surpassed the growth of furniture stores as a whole. Sales increased 9.3% from $19.8 billion for the same 100 companies in 1999. The No. 1 ranked company is Ethan Allen, which generated U.S. furniture, bedding and accessory sales of almost $1.2 billion.

HomeLife Furniture has failed to make a payment to furniture industry suppliers, due June 15, 2001. The missed payment caused several of the suppliers to stop shipments to HomeLife.
