A survey of paternity leave policies
Article Abstract:
A United Kingdom Industrial Relations survey of employer paternity leave policies found almost 75% of respondents to have such a policy and that such policies were most commonly introduced for equal employment opportunity reasons and maintaining competitive conditions. Two-thirds of respondents gave contractual leave, while with one-third such leave was discretionary. Most organizations gave five days leave or less, and a third require that employees meet a service requirement before such leave is granted. Other conditions are listed.

Parental leave: coming sooner or later
Article Abstract:
Laws requiring parental or family leave inevitably will be adopted in the UK, according to reports by the Trade Union Council and the Demos think-tank. Although legislation will exempt UK employers temporarily, demographics, childcare concerns, and employee pressure will force the issue to the forefront. The parental leave policies in other EU Member States will also add to the pressure for UK family leave policies.
