Determining the Age of Retirement
Article Abstract:
Employment and personnel practices should be regularly assessed to determine the application of documents to actual practice. If the theory and the practice are out of sync, problems will probably occur. The terms of employment are always changing. This has been one of the problems of determining retirement age. A high unemployment rate tends to encourage a lower retirement age. The age of retirement is of importance to an employer for a number of legal reasons, such as determining pension eligibility. The date for retirement is often the date of entitlement to full pension, but not always. The age of retirement will also fix the date from which time unfair dismissal and redundancy rights no longer apply. It is best to fix a retirement age in a contract and apply it in practice. An employer may want to make a few exceptions but these should be kept to a minimum to avoid confusion.

A measure of time series' predictability using genetic programming applied to stock returns
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to investigate the predictability and complexity of real-world time series with unknown dynamical structure. A new measure has been proposed, using genetic programming, that helps forecasters in different disciplines to determine whether their data is actually predictable. Findings indicated that the complexity measure has been able to discriminate between linear, non-linear, non-linear chaotic, linear stochastic and random data. However, the model failed to give accurate information as to the predictability of the time-series.

Out on a limb
Article Abstract:
Climbing trees is not just for children, and most adults miss out on the pleasures of seeing the world from a high perch. Bird-watching is more enjoyable, and one's perspective of everyday surroundings is changed from the top of a tree.
