Downsizing and other related workforce trends: an employee benefits perspective

Article Abstract:

An increase in massive layoffs has been recognized to significantly reduce public confidence in employment security. A complex relationship between downsizing and employee benefits exists. Employee benefits costs are seen to affect employment levels as well as the hiring of temporary workers and the outgrowth of administrative functions. Downsizing in developed companies usually entails early retirement incentive packages with employee benefits components.

Value rules: senior management incentives in the post-option era

Article Abstract:

Big changes are in the news and on boardroom agendas, which is a good time for many companies to step back and think fundamentally about senior management incentives and how these programs should be redesigned for better business results. The main problems are described showing how 'value rules' can help employers make better use of incentive plans for long-term results.

Will employee choice and defined contribution health plans salvage the embattled managed care system?

Article Abstract:

The employer-sponsored health care system is in disarray due to medical cost overruns. The defined contribution and consumer-driven health plans can be salvage to health care system by giving employees a financial stake in medical cost control.
