Eldercare: corporate awareness, but little action outlook
Article Abstract:
The results of a survey of 101 personnel executives at the American Management Assn's 59th Annual Human Relations conference in Apr 1988 indicate that management realizes that some employees are responsible for eldercare, providing daily help to an elderly relative. Few companies include applicable provisions in benefit packages. More than two-thirds of the respondents felt that employee performance and morale are affected adversely by the responsibility for the daily care of an ill, disabled, or frail older relative. Only three of the companies represented in the survey offer eldercare as an employee benefit. The need to study the eldercare situation was admitted by 55% of the personnel executives, but only 10% had actually assessed their company needs.
