European Year of Safety slammed as 'waste of money.'
Article Abstract:
Some commentators feel that the 5.8 million pounds sterling from EC funds for European Safety Year has not been used effectively. It is felt that too much emphasis is placed on profit rather than on worker's social needs. The European Commission rather than the European Parliament initiates new laws, and this is felt to be undemocratic as they are not accountable to the electorate.
