Guidelines for hiring a contract recruiter

Article Abstract:

An increasing number of US firms are using the services of contract recruiters. Contract recruiters are consultants who work for companies on a temporary basis to help meet immediate staffing needs. The benefits of this arrangement to the company include: not having the non-salary expenses of a full-time employee, getting an objective perspective on the company's recruitment program, and reducing the work load of the regular personnel staff. When selecting a contract recruiter, companies should interview several recruiters and check the background and claims of all candidates, state the objectives and requirements of the job, involve the entire personnel department in the decision, set fair goals, identify any possible conflicts of interest, and provide the recruiter with regular feedback after hire.

Managing post-merger group moves

Article Abstract:

Statistics demonstrate that nearly 80% of all acquisitions and mergers result in financial disappointment within five years, and most failures can be traced to people difficulties instead of financial or business problems. Personnel managers and merger managers need to work together to develop strategies to inform employees about what the impact of a merger will be, especially if the merger will mean group relocation. Strategies to manage planned group location include: setting up a group-move committee; formulating goals; determining who will be moved; and creating strategies for announcing the move.
