HR finds good and bad in downsizing programmes
Article Abstract:
A two part survey of 100 Human Resources(HR) managers and directors about the impact of downsizing indicates the changed role of HR. One of the positive changes has been that the perception of HR as more accessible has increased from 72% to 94%. In some other cases, however, HR has been seen as the executioners of the company policy and the counseling role has been lost. Many of those surveyed pointed out the positive outcomes of downsizing such as increased competitiveness of organization and less hierarchical organizational structures.

New guidelines launched for employee assistance programmes
Article Abstract:
In Mar 1995 the Brittanic chapter of the Employee Assistance Professionals Assn released its guidelines for British employers that want to provide employee assistance programs (EAPs). These programs offer counseling and related resources to employees suffering from various personal or work-related problems. They also help companies with productivity issues. Such a program meeting the group's minimum standards generally costs 20 to 30 pounds per employee family per year, but can pay for itself many times over.
