HR professional development: creating the future creators at the University of Michigan Business School

Article Abstract:

The University of Michigan Business School offers executive education programs for mid-career and senior-level human resources (HR) professional development. The HR Executive Programs are oriented towards HR professionals who want to upgrade their skills as well as new senior HR managers without prior HR experience. The curriculum is based on competency theory and research and involve developmental experiences for enhancing needed competencies. The programs are divided into four levels. The first two are concerned with technical expertise for HR functional areas while the third level is more generalist. The final level, the Advanced HR Executive Program (AHREP), is devoted to senior HR generalists in divisions and corporations as well as strategy-creating specialists. AHREP involves application teams, integrated faculty, faculty pedagogy, best-practice sharing, continual content revision, and structured syntheses.
