Hannaford Bros. makes health care a Maine event

Article Abstract:

The supermarket company Hannaford Brothers was able to cut down its medical expenses by partnering with its employees and by joining a coalition of hospitals and other employers in Maine. The partnership with employees was created to educate them on what to do regarding health care issues and empower them to take care of themselves. This initiative was made successful through a self-help manual that instructs employees what to do when health issues emerge, a toll-free advisory nurse line that links employees to health professionals and wellness programs for transforming the lifestyle of employees. Hannaford Brothers went beyond this internally driven project by forming a coalition called Maine Health Management Coalition to change the quality of health care delivered across Maine.
