ICI Paints sets its sights on service

The Focus on the Customer program of ICI Paints (Slough, England) has improved both efficiency and customer relations. The program was implemented in 1988 in response to competitive pressures. The objectives of the program included implementing a service-oriented culture, ensuring that all employees had the goal of providing the best customer service, and recognizing the importance of internal customers. ICI Paints implemented a major internal public relations program to help employees feel as if they owned the program. The goals of the internal public relations program included creating a desire for change, motivating employees to achieve a customer-oriented organization, and creating a system to allow employees to introduce new ideas.
