Lifelong learning, partnership and modernization in the NHS

Article Abstract:

The involvement of trade unions in training and education in the National Health Service (NHS) is studied. Trade unions have been largely absent, and therefore largely uninfluential, in workplace learning initatives. Unions are also unable to determine the manner in which organizations interpret and implement the Skills Escalator concept.

Collective and individual voice: convergence in Europe

Article Abstract:

There have been suggestions of convergence from collective towards individual forms of employee voice mechanism in Europe, reflecting the movement of managerial practices towards convergence with the liberal market model. This is examined, and it showed that collective voice is still significant in larger organizations.

Labour-management partnership in the non-union retail sector

Article Abstract:

A study examining the employee outcomes of a meaningful labour-management partnership established in medium-sized United Kingdom retail firms and in the absence of a union, is presented. A comparison with medium-sized firms with unions is also drawn.
