Make choosing your gloves a recipe for success
Article Abstract:
Under new European directives, all protective equipment will have to bear a CE mark and this will apply to gloves. However, the mark cannot mean that the product is fit for a particular purpose. Rubber gloves degrade when they come into contact with certain chemicals and this can eventually lead to direct hand contact with dangerous substances. Even new gloves exhibit permeation whereby molecules of chemicals pass through the glove material and onto the skin. Users will need to examine degradation and permeation figures. The European directives aim to make choices easier by using pictograms on the packaging.

Marking out safety products for success
Article Abstract:
Many health and safety professionals have queries about the wide range of safety marks used in the UK, according to the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF). Safety marks are divided into three types, which denote national or international safety requirements. Users need to know to what level products have been tested so as to assess suitability for inclusion in projects and services. The BSIF can provide information on types of standard safety mark.
