End-of-care indemnities are lump sum payments given by employers to their retiring workers. The value of the lump sum, an indemnite de fin de carriere (IFC), is based on whether the retirement was initiated by the employee or the employer. IFCs are financed either internally or by regular contributions to an external financing arrangement. The advantages and disadvantages of the different modes of financing and their accounting treatments are discussed.
