NLP: a pathway to personal effectiveness
Article Abstract:
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) involves the study of top performers through the systematic examination of the components of their performance. NLP breaks down these components into quantifiable segments and individual patterns that can then be taught to other people who wish to attain high performance levels. The training applications of NLP include the use of mental processing methods to improve information gathering skills and the acquisition of useful new behavioral skills. Basic NLP techniques that can be used to improve interpersonal communication skills are the use of self-awareness to make objective self-assessments, the use of emotional anchors to trigger positive feelings, and the use of behavioral cues to improve interaction with others. Mastery of NLP techniques can permit people to become more flexible thinkers and have better control of their behavior.

Coping With Advanced Manufacturing Technology
Article Abstract:
Computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems represent an advanced form of manufacturing technology. The technical and social aspects of production systems are interrelated. Organizations need to adjust to this new technology. Control problems can result when managers and workers have trouble coping with the demands of technology. Case studies of five firms in three countries that have purchased CIMs provide evidence of these theories. Problems are occurring in evaluation, whether or not to purchase a CIM, and implementation problems are occurring in quality control, accounting, and maintenance. Approaches to dealing with this situation are detailed. Further research is recommended.
