New work ethic if frightening
Article Abstract:
Young employees, who have work ethics characterized by contempt for customers, poor habits, and a lack of ethical standards, will have a negative affect on the ability of US businesses to compete in the future. Factors perpetuating this work ethic include peer pressure on younger workers to conform to an adversarial relationship with management and customers; indifferent parents; and expectations by younger workers that a shrinking labor pool will result in many employment opportunities regardless of their skills. The steps business organizations can take to counter the trend include sending representatives to high schools and colleges to present what job performance, skills and ethics businesses expect; reconsidering internships, training, and mentor relationships; and viewing job orientation as a way to identify problem employees. A case study of employees in a fast food restaurant is discussed.

When 24H Architecture wanted to build a summerhouse in Sweden, it added a retractable extension to an old cabin, creating variable organic form that blended into the woods. Like most of the other architect's project, the work was done gradually.
