Challenges and opportunities in the provision of long-term care
Article Abstract:
Long-term care will undergo several developments as demographic and economic factors underscore the need to reevaluate the system's regulations and procedures. The system can address the aged population's needs better through improvements in planning its services, understanding the aging process and providing transitional levels of care. Meanwhile, financing concerns should strike a balance between the role of the government and the private sector to offset increases in the costs of long-term care. The availability of long-term care insurance may provide a possible solution in this area.

EOC highlights the gender impact of compulsory competitive tendering
Article Abstract:
An Equal Opportunities Commission study shows that compulsory competitive tendering guidelines for public contracts have hurt women more than men. The greatest impact has been on part-time female employees, many of whom have seen their working hours drop to a level below that required for National Insurance participation. Pay inequality among the sexes has increased and trade union membership, especially amongst women, has declined. Suggestions for reversing these trends are included.
