Older workers valued for their experience and reliability
Article Abstract:
A study by the UK Dept for Education and Employment indicates most employers value experienced older employees, but the report concludes heavy bias still exists towards these workers. Older workers' experience and reliability were cited as important, although significant numbers of employers mentioned these employees could be prone to physical problems or resistant to changes. Despite citing overall improved societal attitudes, many of the employers surveyed did not perceive improved attitudes towards older workers within their own companies, which may indicate a higher level of negative perception.

False economies: downsizing as cure costs valuable older workers
Article Abstract:
Companies that have resorted to downsizing to improve their bottom lines may be losing their most valuable assets - their older workers. The younger workforce displacing these experienced employees are viewed as unable to meet the needs of growing firms in a highly competitive environment. Corporations are thus advised to seek more creative ways to improve their operations without displacing older workers.
