Market-neutral strategy limits risk

Article Abstract:

Pension plan managers can reduce the risk of sudden market movements by using the long-shore, market-neutral equity investing approach. The approach entails purchasing investments that have high-yield potentials for the long-term and selling investments that are not so promising in the short-term. Aside from shielding investments from sudden market shifts, the approach also increases investors' flexibility in choosing investment opportunities.

How shaky a foundation?

Article Abstract:

Pension plan experts expressed divergent views regarding the state of the public pension plan system. The pension fund's unfunded liabilities is estimated at around $200 billion. Although most agreed that the public pension fund is currently underfunded, they stressed that so long as the government exists the fund will continue to provide services and benefits to beneficiaries.
