Putting the well into welding safety
Article Abstract:
Computer systems are already used to design production areas which use robots. Computer software which runs in conjunction with computer-aided design systems is used. Many of the programmes do not take safety into account when designing these systems, and they can be very expensive. One company are looking at ways to allow for variations in the standard programmes which would take in safety and ergonomics considerations at the design stage.

Safety in laboratories for first year students
Article Abstract:
Many students entering higher education courses have had little health and safety training, and may be dealing with dangerous substances. Some colleges offer a lecture on the subject, but students may fail to see the relevance or absorb the information. One UK college offers new science students a course based on units which have to be completed. They are required to understand a safety code before their equipment is issued.
