RSI hits a nerve
Article Abstract:
The controversy surrounding repetitive strain injury (RSI) is because experts are divided as to whether it an organic or psychosomatic condition. Inability to reach a consensus on diffuse RSI is caused by the differing views over how the condition should be distinguished. The UK's Health and Safety Executive's guidance on upper limb disorders suggests that the main risks are associated with awkward, frequent or forceful gripping, reaching and moving things, squeezing, high force levels, rapid movements, awkward posture and poor environmental conditions. Employers who ignore such risk factors may be liable to prosecution.

Faultlines
Article Abstract:
Stress is a health and safety issue but it is impossible to measure stress because people react differently to situations. Also, experts disagree and this makes it hard to prosecute. Long hours, noise, having to work fast, having a lot to do, not getting support and being interrupted all contribute towards stress. The Health and Safety Executive plans to run an awareness campaign aimed at employers. It also wants the government to introduce regulations to tackle stress. People who have experienced stress may get compensation in the civil courts.
