Safety first for HSE as computer system helps prevent dust explosions

DUST-EXPERT computer system for dust explosion hazards is the result of eight years development by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). The package offers advice on safe handling of explosive dust and it is relevant to a variety of industries including wood working, metal powder processing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and animal feeds. DUST-EXPERT costs 2,600 pounds sterling and the Institution of Chemical Engineers has been appointed as exclusive distributor.

Designing, using and selecting hand tools
Article Abstract:
The design of hand tools should take the user and type of work required into account, according to speakers at the Ergonomics Society seminar at the Health and Safety Laboratory, Sheffield. The seminar, which discussed the design, use and selection of hand tools, featured a number of speakers, including representatives from Nissan Motors UK, tool maker Sandvik, and the head of health ergonomics at the Robens Institute.
