Selling the case for gender equality: Deregulation and equality bargaining
Article Abstract:
The implications of deregulation for women's employment equality in Britain are addressed. Analyses indicated that deregulated systems are distinguished by inequality. A critical case study of the Gas Staffs and Senior Officers (GSSO) agreement in British Gas, which was notable among equal opportunity initiatives as it was produced via collective bargaining, is examined. It is argued that responsibility for equality in the workplace has been privatized, and equality action relies on the identification of a business case for equality.

Union membership in post-socialist East Germany: who participates in collective action?
Article Abstract:
East Germany accepted the industrial relations system of West Germany when the two countries became one in 1989, but in 1996 the system in East Germany does not appear to be working in the same way as in the west. There are few stewards from unions in East German companies and employers' representative organisations are short of members. Union members can be both social as well as rational individuals, and their view of collective instrumentality may be affected by belonging to a union.

Multi-union collective bargaining structures in South Africa: case studies
Article Abstract:

Analysis of a number of specific cases indicates that multi-union bargaining structures improve the access which unions have to information and ensure greater participation in managerial policies.
