Shopfloor workers have conflicting views of kaizen
Article Abstract:
A study of the introduction and practice of kaizen in two organization shows the conflicting responses to the idea. While some employees appreciate the chance to analyze and organize the workflow better others are bothered by the unrealistic goals and the complete elimination of slack time. The study indicates that the training of shopfloor workers in kaizen increases the pool of people capable of improving productivity through waste elimination. Also, involving people from the shop floor ensures a greater commitment to the goals than when managers were solely involved in the process.

Grampian staff survey sets agenda for management action
Article Abstract:
Management at the Grampian National Health Service Trust developed an action agenda based on a 1996 staff survey. Issues raised by survey concerned pay, staffing levels, job security, managerial communication, employee safety, and work shifts. In particular, communications were targeted for improvement. A table summarizing findings and recommendations is included.
