Strengthening executive decision making
Article Abstract:
Effective decision making is the key to business success. Companies can outperform their competitors by making better decisions, making them faster and implementing them more effectively. Unfortunately, the quality of decision-making in many US corporations is widely perceived to be poor. Surveys of middle and senior-level managers revealed their severe dissatisfaction with the slow pace of decision making, the inadequate processes for gaining input and building consensus, and the means for communicating decisions. One of the most effective ways of improving executive decision making is to harmonize the managers' values and visions for the future. This can be done by developing a mission statement, integrating goals and improving strategic planning.

The expansive executive: how the drive to mastery helps and hinders organizations
Article Abstract:
Executives frequently fall under the character type labelled as 'expansive.' These managers are typically highly ambitious, achievement-oriented, and influence-driven. Research into the traits that can aid executive leadership shows that an expansive temperament can be a key reason for the effectiveness of many senior managers. However, there are strong indications that this kind of temperament can also lead to counterproductive behavior among executives if taken to the extreme.
