Strike action and minimum public transport services

Article Abstract:

The French transport minister hopes that legislation, which will ensure minimum public transport to function during periods of industrial strife will be in place by the first quarter of year 2004. The minister who is aware of the constitutional rights of the workers wants to ensure that the general public is not unduly inconvenienced during any strike.

Pension system under strain

Article Abstract:

The changes in the pension system, in Netherlands, are expected to be in place by year 2005, since the pension system is increasingly under strain. There are fears that increasing the premiums will have an adverse impact on employment since labor will become more expensive.

European Parliament (EP) deferred the voting program on disputed Bolkestein Directive, which aims single market, to November 2005. The postponement of voting program is attributed to internal political conflicts of EP.
