The 1988 CIP survey results

Article Abstract:

Some 30,000 UK personnel practitioners were asked about their use of computer systems in personnel management. The survey was a joint effort by the Institute of Personnel Management and the Institute of Manpower studies. Results suggest that computer systems are increasingly available to smaller organizations, with about half of all responding firms that have less than 1,000 workers using computers for personnel activities. There has been a four-fold increase in use of mini-computers in the six years since the annual survey was first taken. One area in which survey respondents report considerable dissatisfaction is in manuals and accompanying documentation: 41% were unimpressed, while just 15% rated the materials as 'good'.
