The employment contract: when and how to negotiate it
Article Abstract:
Employment contracts were once primarily for senior executives. However, in recent years employment contracts have become more common for middle managers due to the increase in corporate restructuring and relocation. The ability of an employee to initiate an employment contract negotiation depends on the uniqueness and importance of what the employee has to offer the organization. After making a self-assessment, the employee should determine whether they need to have an employment contract, much of which depends on the stability of the company and the industry that the company competes in. The negotiation process should be built around the basic elements of the contract, term, job description, compensation, termination, severance. The key to a successful negotiation is to strive for a situation in which both parties win.

Improving pre-employment screening: drug testing in the workplace
Article Abstract:
It is estimated that about 32% US employees use illict drugs which costs companies billions of dollars annually. Pre-employment drug testing is becoming more popular but is expensive. A urinary test costs on average $25 per test. The study proves that paper-and-pencil pre-employment tests work well and are cheap, costing about $7 per test. Two hundred and forty-six applicants for jobs at a Southern Californian security company were tested with urinary and the paper-and-pencil tests. The paper-and-pencil test was 90% accurate.
