The four faces of employee consultation

Article Abstract:

Joint consultative committees (JCCs) are used extensively in the British public sector and in industry. JCCs differ in purpose, subject matter, representation, and level of employee involvement. Four JCC models are discussed. The non-union JCC is the channel for two-way communication in companies without union agreements. The competitive JCC provides high-level consultation and direct forms of employee involvement. The adjunct JCC is an advisory body without decision-making powers, while a marginal JCC is a stagnant group without meaningful effect on company operations.

When you're searching for excellence, don't be afraid of causing discomfort

Article Abstract:

It is important for personnel managers to ensure that corporate executives recognize the worth of their efforts. They should point out the timeliness and quality of their services, create new and refreshing ways of meeting motivational needs and work at sensitizing upper level managers to employee problems. Only by being outspoken, can personnel managers become recognized as assets to their companies.
