The indivisibility of risk - the management of employee benefits and care for the elderly

Article Abstract:

'Pre-loss risk reduction' is a strategic approach to the management of risks associated with employee benefits and health care for the elderly. Such a strategy can be applied through the use of risk reduction devices such as health promotion and illness-prevention programs, occupational schemes and morbidity of compression. The efficiency and cost-effectiveness of these approaches are well-documented. Risk management can also be optimized through the implementation of balanced pension provisions, collective pension systems, advanced funding and incorporated state and private health care provisions.

Canadian health care financing schemes are shifting from publicly financed to the privately financed. This means more workers benefits are being shouldered by the employer, mostly from hospital bills to dental bills. Most Canadian firms have tried to control worker's health spending by adopting flex arrangement in benefits packages. Pension fund investment companies are moving from active to passive management, preventing increases in benchmark performance measurements.
