Training the next level: Why new leaders fail and what they need to learn
Article Abstract:
Workplace learning and performance professionals play an important role in helping new executive leaders grasp and respond successfully to higher expectations, by understanding the broader work they are expected to do. Three distinct categories of executive presence, namely personal presence, team presence, and organizational presence, along with behavioral adjustment are necessary for new executives to stop relying on the criteria of their previous success, and achieve success at the next level.

Relationship development is the single-most crucial element for any leadership model, in order to have a capacity to create value and to recover quickly from mistakes. Leaders who develop powerful, purposeful and productive relationships with their employees through the practice of goodwill, results, authenticity, connectivity and empowerment (GRACE) are more likely to inspire greater productivity, career growth, innovation and overall employee performance.
