Training groups to collaborate

Article Abstract:

The various organizations involved in technology- and computer-based training need to coordinate their efforts and increase inter-organizational communication. The Association for Educational and Training Technology convened a meeting of associations at the Interactivity '88 training conference in the Hague to address the issues involved in cooperation. The meeting considered collaboration in: creating political pressure groups; sharing journal information; and creating reciprocal membership benefits. Some of the concrete suggestions that came out of the meetings included: creating a register of all related associations; creating ways to exchange information through their various journals; and developing a comprehensive conference diary.

Land of opportunity

Article Abstract:

The 1989 Society for Applied Learning conference, concerned with the technology that supports education and training, was focused on interactive video. Issues discussed or observed include: enhancing competitiveness by educating a workforce in new skills; the movement of major US corporations to open- and technology-based learning; and US ignorance of CD-I technology. British businesses have a lead in the development of training packages, but must adapt their products culturally and contextually to the US market.

Achieving technological fit

Article Abstract:

Interactive video can be an expensive option when used in training employees. Training managers need to determine what a technological option can make a program more effective. Other less complex options to consider when developing training materials include: creating an audio tape; developing a non-interactive video; and using digitized pictured stored in a computer keyed to a map.
