Union effects on earnings dispersion in Australia, 1986-1994
Article Abstract:
Recent research has investigated the impact of the decline in trade union density on the distribution of earnings in Australia in the period 1986-1994. It took into account measures of earnings differences between employees at different percentiles of the earnings distribution, and also the variation in earnings. It was found that around 30% of the increase in earnings dispersion for male employees can be attributed to the fall in union density, although the effect on earnings dispersion for female workers was less marked.

Job satisfaction in Britain
Article Abstract:
Recent research has used an analysis of 500 employees in the UK to look at various aspects of job satisfaction. Both bivariate and regression techniques were used to assess the distribution of three different measures of job satisfaction. It was found that women, older workers and those with lower educational achievements had the highest levels of job satisfaction. The type of jobs which workers undertake also play a strong role in determining job satisfaction.
