Article Abstract:
A rubber cartel, the International Rubber Organization (INRO) has ceased to exist, leaving the problem of how its large stock of rubber should be disposed of. Rubber production spread from Brazil to Malaysia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and production then spread to Indonesia and Thailand, where costs are lower. Malaysia, meanwhile, has switched to other crops, and the cartel also suffered from lack of support from producers. There have been conflicts of interest since consumers have also been in the cartel. INRO has also tended to foster overproduction since it has encouraged inefficient producers to stay in business.

Almost all injuries are preventable, and it is important to ensure that employees are fully aware of the need to follow safety instructions and wear eye protection where necessary.
