Working in the Community
Article Abstract:
The UK's presidency of the European Community (EC) from Jul 1, 1992 to Dec 31, 1992 comes at a crucial time. By the end of the UK presidency, the single market shall have come into effect and preparations for the implementation of the Treaty of European Union signed in Maastricht are set to proceed in earnest. During its presidency, the UK hopes to influence the direction of future EC initiatives. One important policy area where it plans to take an active role is in social affairs and employment. The UK intends to focus on the need to develop a European framework for social development that helps promote job creation. It also aims to finalize agreement on issues such as occupational safety standards and vocational training. Employment, however, remains the UK's main focus of concern. It hopes to stress the importance of implementing policies that enhance job growth and reduce unemployment.

Tricks and trucks: a case study of organization concepts at work
Article Abstract:
An investigation of 10 years of organizational change at DAF Trucks gives a valuable insight into possible uses of organization concepts (OCs) such as total quality management in organizational change. OCs can serve only as a model for change. It is clear that OCs must leave room for interpretation if they are to be generally acceptable and applicable. The actions undertaken in an OC's name and the OC's content may only be loosely linked.
