A diagnosis that demands more doctors
Article Abstract:
There should be a rise of around 1,000 in the annual admission of students to UK medical schools, according to the Medical Workforce Standing Advisory Committee. This committee also recommends that the number of foreign undergraduate medical students is kept at current levels during the time when the intake to medical schools is rising. It is forecast that demand for doctors will grow by between 1.4% and 2% a year, and current approaches to training are not likely to meet this demand. There is already a gap between demand for doctors and domestic supply, making it necessary to recruit doctors from abroad.
