Alternative medicine: can it complement your benefit plan?
Article Abstract:
There are certain factors that employers have to consider if they plan to offer complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as part of their employees' health care benefits package. Employers should subject the qualifications and competence of CAM providers through strict requirements similar to physicians. They should implement referral requirements since physicians are reluctant to integrate their practice with CAM. The level of coverage to be provided for by the health plans should also be examined to find out if members would be given full or partial coverage.
