Commuting by Computer
Article Abstract:
There is a strong trend toward telecommuting and away from standard large office facilities. A few years ago, several firms set up trial situations for employees' work at home via computers or terminals. Presently, this approach affects word processors and computer programmers; these are not the only positions which might be handled from home. Employer advantages for work at home situations include a wider recruitment base, better employee retention, and better control of office space expenses. Also, it affords a chance to achieve improved balance of workloads involving computer equipment. Alternate work sites might take any number of forms: homes, satellite offices, or neighborhood work centers. Personnel management will be altered owing to such changes. Management considerations of personnel selection, training, and supervision are detailed. Management must concentrate on the remote worker's need for feedback to insure a quality work product and satisfaction on all sides. Many major insurance firms are assessing the possibilities of telecommuting. According to a 1981 survey, about one-third of the firms has flextime programs.

Deducting the interest on loans to buy policies
Article Abstract:
Insurance agents can help their customers who have life insurance policies in their investment portfolios deduct interest on loans to purchase policies. Investors may deduct the interest on their tax returns if they needed to borrow because of unforeseen expenses or an increase in premiums. In addition, if the cash value of a life insurance policy increases, the interest from the assets are tax deductible. Taking out loans irregularly to pay for the insurance plan will also allow the client to deduct the interest.
