Consolidation continues in Canada: Canadian insurers are targeting efficiency as the key to competition
Article Abstract:
International life and health insurance companies are leaving Canada due to its over saturated market and low rates of return which have resulted in an increased trend toward consolidation. Another factor causing the departure of insurance companies is the increased competition as banks have entered the insurance market with low insurance rates. However, departure of foreign companies have also allowed acquiring companies to increase their operations and improve market presence. Meanwhile, investment portfolios maintain good quality despite increased commercial mortgages and real estate deals.
