Don't marry new system with old work flow
Article Abstract:
Insurance offices often add new technology without arranging the office work flow to take full advantage of it. Better computer systems keep increasing the potential for higher efficiency, but outdated organizational structures can limit that potential. Managers should be willing to develop new job descriptions and responsibilities. Some techniques used by large companies, such as job rotation, flatter organizational structures, work teams and cross-training of employees can be used by smaller insurance offices to maximize employee productivity.

Scarce human resources pose daunting challenge
Article Abstract:
The insurance industry is facing a shortage of middle-and-upper management personnel. The industry has focused on managing financial resources and neglected human resources for so long that top positions are being filled by executives from outside the industry. The industry has become more complex, and management decisions require high levels of experience and skill. The current talent pool within the industry is inadequate to address the reengineering and information management requirements of the business environment.
