Effects of Unions on Job Satisfaction. The Role of Work-Related Values and Perceived Rewards
Article Abstract:
The impacts of unions on various elements of job satisfaction are investigated. Union impact is presumed to be indirect on satisfaction elements such as work-linked values or reward perceptions. Multiple regression and logit analysis are employed in a national probability sampling of fully-employed mature workers. Unions highten worker satisfaction with pay be directing pay values and outcomes. However, unions' impact on contentment with job itself may be detrimental because they limit the perception of the range of the job. Unions may also negatively impact worker satisfaction with fellow workers and bosses, as well as satisfaction with raises and promotions. Facet satisfaction models are specified and subjected to twenty- six regressions, and a pooling test. As is done in prior research, union impact on hourly wages and fringe benefits is figured to be positive. Tables of probabilities of union and nonunion members' fringe benefits, regression results for pay satisfaction modeling, co-worker modeling, and value and outcome equations are included.

Reducing the Influence of Irrelevant Information on Experienced Decision Makers
Article Abstract:
Two training procedures were used to determine their effect in reducing the adverse influence of irrelevant information. One procedure involved lectures - as in a classroom experience. The second procedure involved interaction and practice - as in a laboratory experience. Lecture training only minimally reduced the influence of the irrelevant information. Interactive training not only reduced the influence of the irrelevant information, it also improved the accuracy of judgments.
