Article Abstract:

The key factors on the success of some American insurance companies in the competitive global insurance market have been presented. These entail studying various potential markets to assess their best opportunities. A particular company should weigh the most effective way of to enter a selected market. Some of the available options include establishing a branch, creating new subsidiary, purchasing a company which is already engaged in similar business and engaging in a joint venture.

Article Abstract:

U.S. based insurers looking to make their mark overseas typically turn first to the U.K., where easily managed currency differences and a lack of competition seem to ensure success. Other emerging overseas markets pose more difficulties. Insurers can overcome foreign insurer power by limiting foreign investment to 49% ownership, setting nationality and permanent-residence rules and requiring foreign investment companies to be domestically-licensed subsidiaries.
