New budget and tax laws affect wide array of benefit issues
Article Abstract:
The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 and the Taxpayer Relieft Act of 1997 carry few major changes to most employers, but the new laws hold various provisions that will impact a vast array of benefit issues. The changes include added plan design or administrative flexibility, and some changes may boost compliance burdens for several plans. The tax law raises the deduction for health insurance costs of the self-employed. Employee benefits professionals should review the new laws to know how they may exploit the new opportunities and lessen the compliance burdens and costs.
