Health care reform heats up (again)
Article Abstract:
Health care reform proposals in the 104th Congress have veered away from controversial issues such as employer mandates and mandatory purchasing alliances. Instead, they have focused on incremental reforms such as administrative streamlining, insurance market reforms, ERISA preemption, Medical Savings Accounts and transforming Medicare and Medicaid. Congress is expected to focus on these proposals when it finishes working on the Contract with America initiatives.

Health reform sputters, pensions gain speed as 103rd Congress draw to a close
Article Abstract:
There was congressional inaction on health reform in the 103rd Congress in 1994. However, it is expected that discussions would continue in 1995. The Pension Annuitants Protection Act was approved. The 104th Congress is expected to be more conservative since the Republican Party shall be controlling both the House and Senate. Cost containment will be the main focus of the health care debate and less on universal coverage and health security.
