Interim rules governing the Newborns' and Mothers' Health Protection Act of 1996
Article Abstract:
The Newborns' and Mothers' Health Protection Act of 1996 was promulgated to give mothers and newly born infants the privilege to stay in a hospital for a certain period of time after childbirth. The prescribed length of hospital stay is 48 hours after a normal delivery and 96 hours after giving birth via cesarian section. The duration of the hospital stay commences at the time of giving birth if it is a hospital delivery. However, a stay starts at the moment of admission to the hospital if the birthing occurs in another place.
