Internet-based enrollment and communications: a primer for HR and benefit plan sponsors
Article Abstract:
A Web site on the Internet offers employees 24-hour access to personal, retirement and benefit plan information. This method reduces cost by eliminating the use of paper. It also simplifies enrolment processing by using the hypertext mark up language (HTML). However, limited applications can be offered to companies with employees who have weak computer skills compared to firms with highly computer literate employees.

An analysis of medical cost trend rates reveals that point of service projections currently stand at 7.4% with demographic factors expected to push corporate and employee expenditures higher and higher. Better vendor management, continual analysis to improve overall workforce health, improved productivity and maintaining healthier employees all add up to reduce the impact of increasing healthcare costs.
