Article Abstract:
Insurance companies need to consider several copyright and trademark issues when providing coverage for firms in the computer software industry. There is always the possibility of lawsuits related to developers' lifting of musical or visual elements from the original version without approval from the owner or rights holder. Insurance companies are urged to think about the duplication of numerical source and object codes in computer programs. They are also recommended to examine multimedia liability policies based on advertising injury protection supported by general liability contracts.

The high stakes of high-tech
Article Abstract:
Selling insurance to the computer industry is both attractive and challenging. Insurance carriers must understand the components of the industry and be flexible in adapting their policies to the clients' specific needs. Due to the global nature of the industry, insurance should cover the possibility of a third party suit and international product liability. Insurance for research & development loss needs to cover documentation and prototypes in addition to facilities. Since product liability claims are often beyond liability coverage, errors and omissions insurance is also required.
