Medicare risk HMOs: a good choice for retiree coverage?

More and more employers are discovering the advantages that Medicare risk health maintenance organizations (HMOs) have over traditional coverage for their Medicare-eligible retirees. However, although HMO options offer much better coverage with lower premium cost to the retiree, some retirees refuse HMO coverage due to its unavailability, inconvenient location, rules and operations and financial stability, among others. meanwhile, employers who decide to use HMOs must analyze their options, conduct a marketplace review and consider some implementation issues before proceeding.
