Testing abilities
Article Abstract:
Workers' compensation claims adjusters should use a functional capacity evaluation to help determine compensation for pain caused by sprains or strains. The evaluation, which is administered by an occupational therapist or physician, should be requested three weeks after occurrence of the injury. The information gathered helps adjusters determine when the employee is ready and able to resume work. Additional benefits of using functional capacity evaluations are discussed.

Lending adjusters a hand
Article Abstract:
There are many strategies that casualty insurers can use to hold down the cost of and improve the processing of workers' compensation claims. Companies can send claims adjustment work to outside service providers, use peer reviews and independent medical examinations, hire qualified outside investigators and outsource legal services. Insurers can also lower costs by using audits, preferred provider organizations and vocational rehabilitation programs.
