Principles and best practices of executive compensation that stand the test of time
Article Abstract:
Best compensation practices have been a ticklish issue over the years and several suggestions have been put forward to bring transparency into the process. Suggestions are put forward for constitution of compensation committees with independent directors, a pay philosophy, pay objective, peer group selection, benchmarking and performance measures and following a long term plan design. Supplemental retirement plans and perquisites, and even other non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements could be considered as well as a requirement that the executive should own a meaningful amount of stock.
